BUSY BEE DAY CAMP

busy bee summer camp

Traditional day camp for grades Kindergarten through Third grade. Campers have a full day of activities. Each morning they will have two activities at the camp site, such as sports, arts and crafts, science experiments, music, and karate. The schedule rotates each day.

Camp does not provide snack or lunch (except lunch on Fridays). Parents may purchase lunch for campers Monday - Thursday. Friday is pizza day and included with the tuition. Each afternoon the campers go to the pool (weather permitting) lessons are given at least three times a week at the Glen Rock Pool. Friday morning campers take a field trip off site to go bowling.  Each week has a theme and campers will have a blast with all of the additional activities that are planned in between all of the above. Our long running camp is the perfect fit for a well rounded summer experience. Campers may attend before and after care for an additional fee.

ART CAMP

This half day camp also includes time for campers to eat lunch with their friends. Snack and lunch are not provided. Campers will have two blocks of art each day, where they will discover, enhance and showcase their abilities using mixed media, such as clay, drawing, painting and crafting. Each two week session will end with an Art reception where parents and caregivers can attend. Pizza will be provided for the artists and their guests. The art instructor has experience teaching classes at the community school and working on various art related projects in the community and in entertainment. Art supplies included.

CHESS CAMP

High level instruction in addition to supervised play will be provided to students of all levels from beginner to advanced in a camp atmosphere. Emphasis is on enhanced problem solving and logical reasoning skills, creativity and forging lifelong friendships! We'll make you love the game!

GLEN ROCK COOKING CAMP

Attention all Chefs! This year's theme is Cooking Around the World. Our cooking camp is bursting with flavor and our kitchen is full of action!  This half day session introduces campers to international cuisine. Each day, campers focus on exploring cultures and food from around the world… showcasing interesting cultural tidbits about the country.  In addition, we will read a folktale, play an international game, observe a cooking demonstration, create recipe illustrations, and learn to think critically about the foods we just cooked.

GLEN ROCK BAKING CAMP

BAKING CAMPNew to camp this year! Good things come to those who bake! Every baker needs to start at the beginning and learn the basics. This camp will build a foundation for the rest of your baking going forward. Nothing can be more creative than making cupcakes. Day one, you will learn how to make moist yellow cupcakes with chocolate ganache frosting and cookies n' cream cupcakes with Oreo frosting. Next, quick breads and muffins are great for breakfast or a quick snack. They are perfect examples of how breads can rise without yeast. We will whip together some banana bread and chocolate chip muffin bites day 2. Who doesn't love a good cookie warm out of the oven? Day 3, we will bake up chocolate chip and world peace cookies paired perfectly with a glass of cold milk. Day 4 we will focus on yeasted doughs by creating the best homemade cinnamon rolls ever. Last but not least, will create our own homemade pizzas. We will have a variety of toppings, sauces, and cheeses available to create a Pizza Bar.

MUSIC CAMP

As a new camp this year, Music Camp will be led by Glen Rock certified music teacher, Stephen Malone. Explore folk and traditional songs and dances, as well as modern, jazz and classical music. The goal of the camp is to enhance your camper's ability to sing in tune, work on keeping a beat, and appreciate the artful and expressive side of music while having a lot of fun. Please bring a snack and drink as we will surely work up an appetite.

CODING CAMP

New to camp this year, certified Glen Rock High School science teacher, Heather McDermott will lead the coding camp. This hands on, innovative course will allow students to use their imagination to create video games, problem solve, and program mini robots to complete tasks. Come join the fun while sharpening your computer programming skills.

VETERINARIANS IN TRAINING CAMP

This new camp is perfect for animal lovers. This hands on experience will have campers learning about animals from a vet's perspective. Campers will learn about caring for animals and about animal checkups and vet visits. There will be experiments, science information and of course learning about what vets do. House Paws will be bringing this camp to GRCS.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SKILLS

Middle School Success:  The transition from elementary to middle school can be a daunting one. Students need to adjust to a new building, multiple teachers and the “dreaded” cafeteria and lockers. During their fifth grade year, students will experience a variety of activities designed to ease the transition from elementary to middle school. As September approaches, some students may feel the need for a refresher in a small group setting. This course offers a review of topics including locker organization, binder management, helpful homework tips and time management - reinforcing great strategies that will last a lifetime and intended for students entering Grade 6. The instructor is Anthony Cece, GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

Study Skills Essentials: 
Successful middle school students require a strong foundation in executive functioning skills.  Study Skills Essentials provides students with the necessary tools that are imperative for success in middle school and beyond. Topics include organizational skills, time management, test taking skills, following directions and long-term planning.  In addition to acquiring these essential skills, students will learn valuable tips to maintain them throughout their educational careers. The instructor is Anthony Cece, a GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

MUSIC LESSONS

Summer is a great time to improve at your instrument or learn how to play something new. Private music lessons offer comprehensive one-on-one music instruction in beginner to intermediate woodwinds, brass, strings, piano, percussion and guitar.

KINDERGARTEN READY CAMP

Students who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall will benefit from this new camp built around kindergarten readiness. The community school's Pre-K teacher will be leading this camp. This camp will provide students with learning opportunities that go beyond the Pre-K curriculum. This camp will promote social, emotional and academic growth for students before they enter elementary school this fall. Students will take part in hands-on math activities, literature-based art activities, emergent literacy lessons, science experiments and cooking (allergy permitting). There will be ample time and opportunities for socialization with peers.

PLAY CAMP

play campPlay Camp offers a unique summer experience for our youngest campers ages 3 and 4. A balance of indoor and outdoor activities includes arts and crafts, games, and music. Fundamentals of motor skills and perceptual development are included in this valuable play experience with children of similar ages. Play Camp provides summer fun and a terrific introduction to both summer camp and preschool experiences. Play Camp leadership is certificated in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, assisted by experienced counselors. Children must be toilet trained and bottles and pacifiers are not permitted at camp.

SEWING CAMP

This camp is for all levels of sewing. Beginners will learn how to sew and those who know how to sew, will continue to work on their craft. Vivian Burns teaches classes in Glen Rock and surrounding communities. Campers will learn how to use a real sewing machine and create fabulous and fun projects starting with patch pillows, tote bags, aprons and over the course of just one week develop skills to create pajama shorts, simple dresses and tops. This is a full day camp which will give campers the confidence to sew on a real sewing machine as well as understand and perform basic construction techniques. Machines and fabric are provided.

JEWELRY MAKING CAMP

Jewelry Making camp is new this year. Campers learn to make real jewelry. Campers will work with various pliers, wire and other elements to create unique pieces for themselves, friends and family. No experience is necessary. Campers will choose from a large supply of fabulous beads and finding. There is no limit to what your camper can create.

WOODWORKING CAMP

New to camp this year. Come join us this summer and have fun learning the basics of woodworking. Every day campers will start off by learning woodworking safety. They will also learn about the tools that are used and how the projects of the day are put together.  Campers will be doing light sanding with sandpaper, gluing and painting to make fun and exciting projects to bring home each day. Some projects will include a birdhouse, wooden games, animal figures, and much more. Campers may bring a snack and a drink.

KID BIZ CAMP

Students will have the opportunity in this new camp to learn business tools and run through a portfolio of activities of their choice. These portfolios will open them to many buzz words and terms important to running their own business. The portfolios will include activities with ways to research needs and problems, pay for supplies, advertise, and run their business. Portfolios will include the ability to run their own lemonade stand, dog walking services, baked goods, and others. The target of the camp is to learn how to take these lessons and open the doors to one day finding a way to take their own path with their own ideas, skills, and experience. The instructor has experience as an Entrepreneurship high school teacher.

Glen Rock Football Camp: The camp is run under the direction of GRHS head football coach Jim Kurz, who is also assisted by other high school football coaches and current GRHS football players. The camp is designed for both experienced and inexperienced players and it will teach each player the fundamentals and techniques of the game. Campers will receive on-field instruction and practice specific skills and drills that will help them succeed at their positions. This program is “non-contact” without pads.

Glen Rock Little League Baseball Camp: Baseball Coach Billy Crispino and coaches bring their own experiences and love of baseball to the young players developing their baseball skills. Camp includes position specific drills, base-running, pitching lessons, batting practice and batting video analysis. Games and competitions will also be included such as homerun derby, wiffle ball competitions and much more! All campers should come prepared with cleats, mitts, lunch, water bottle and sunscreen.

Golf Camp: 
Tee it up with TGA for an action-packed week of golf camp! Our camp maximizes the fun by including instruction, games, and exciting activities to help players of all experience levels develop their skills and passion for the sport in a safe and supportive environment. Campers should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Campers should bring a snack and drink.

Rock Lacrosse Camp: Varsity lacrosse head coach Mike Escalante and his staff of high school coaches and players offer expert instruction and passion for the game of lacrosse. Camp includes position specific drills, faceoff specialist drills, 1v1 play, group play and team play. The goals of the camp are to enhance each player’s individual skill, each player’s lacrosse I.Q, and introduce team concepts. Games and competitions will also be included throughout the camp! All campers should come prepared with full lacrosse equipment, water and lunch.

Girl's Summer Lacrosse: 
The Glen Rock Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Clinics will be run by head coach Kyle McCourt, along with other Glen Rock High School players and coaches affiliated with the program. For four days, players will learn and practice the fundamentals/tactics of girls’ lacrosse.  Numerous skills and strategies of the sport will be learned based on the appropriate age groups, as well as fun activities for enjoyment/team building.  The clinics will be available for girls going into grades 1-4 and grades 5-8.  Players should come equipped with their own girls’ lacrosse stick, goggles, mouthpiece and water/sports drink.

Rock Softball Camp: Coach Kelly Dowell along with GRHS softball coaches and varsity softball players, brings many years of teaching skill development and fundamentals. The camp includes Video Analysis, the ultimate technique in performance feedback for hitting and fielding. Campers should come prepared to play hard, learn a lot and have fun! Equipment needed includes: sneakers or cleats, mitt, batting gloves and bat (optional), batting helmet, lunch, water bottle and sunblock.

Rock Sports Camp: Under the direction of Jim Kurz, head football coach for Glen Rock High School and veteran camp director, Rock Sports Camp introduces young players to a variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, hockey, volleyball and lacrosse. Games include dodgeball, kickball, Steal-the-Bacon, Soldiers and Medics, Dungeon, and more. Each week is not a duplicate of the other weeks. The staff is made up of primarily experienced physical education teachers, coaches and current and former Glen Rock star athletes. The camp provides a balance of cooperative activities and individual skill development. Campers enjoy a caring, supportive and fun environment where each child receives recognition for his/her contributions.

Rock Tennis Clinic: Join Varsity Tennis coach Bonnie Zimmermann and some talented players to learn and practice your tennis skills.  All levels are welcome to practice strokes and play games that will be fun and challenging.  Campers should wear sneakers and comfortable clothing and bring a refillable water bottle and snacks.  Tennis is a fun lifetime sports so let’s get started.

Rock Track and Field Camp: The camp is directed by head track coaches JP McCarten and Stacie Gallo. This program incorporates age appropriate activities including warm ups/ cool downs, yoga and stretching, training for races, relay events, and field events including throwing, jumping and hurdling led by high school coaches and athletes that will use their experience and knowledge to educate campers. Campers must bring sneakers, water, sunblock, and a snack.

Volleyball Camp: This traditional camp by Bob Bertucci Camps is a combination of both the individual and team camp programs condensed into a four day format. The first part of the camp will train individual skills and build toward team functions. For example, a session will start with individual passing and progress to full team serve receive. In the second half of the session, we will expand to team transitions, strategy and tactics and 6v6 competition.

STEM CAMP

New to this year's STEM Camp, each week will have a new theme, and campers will rotate between four areas each day: science, math, coding and technology. Themes this year include: planets, animals, water and weather. Super Science Day will be held the last day of each session. This is a fun filled day with events and experiments brought in by Education Explorers. Also, Rizzo's Wildlife will be returning this summer. The camp is led by the direction of Glen Rock certified teacher, Heather McDermott.

Located in the state-of-the-art learning environment of the GRHS STEM Wing, teachers will lead the campers through an enrichment program via “real-world” problem solving, traditional and non-traditional activities, journal writing, related literature, hands-on investigations, coding, experiments and our makerspaces. 
Curriculum is grade specific, so returning campers will have a brand new experience! 


STEM Extension is returning this year from 1 pm - 3 pm as an option for campers to spend more time on STEM enrichment. Campers may also attend before and/or after care on these weeks.

VIDEO MAKING

Little Ivy Academy is back with a new camp this year, RobotMakers. Build, create and explore. Robot tug-of-war and more is what's in store for your child and their campmates as they work together to build a range of robots to compete in a field day! Campers will use LEGO NXT, along with an age-appropriate flavor of the Scratch programming language, to build and code a series of robots that will tackle obstacles and challenges.

READING CLUB:YOUNG AUTHORS CAMP

The Reader’s Clubhouse provides young readers with the opportunity to become totally immersed in several reading selections in each session. The selections are chosen for appropriateness to grade level, and also for the opportunities they present for exciting and engaging individual and small group activities.  

Explore the world of dystopian fiction in this literacy book club camp. Novels center around survival of the fittest in a post-apocalyptic time where things have gone wrong. In addition to short story read-alouds, featured novels may include: Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix, The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, The Big Dark by Rodman Philbrick, or The Giver by Lois Lowery. Each session will be different. 

Based on the students’ talents and interests, clubhouse members will learn the elements of literature through discussion, creative writing exercises, stimulating art projects and even an opportunity to “eat their words” through fun and unique edible projects! Students at all reading levels will enjoy this opportunity to share their love of reading and writing with their peers
