Sewing

This class is for those who want to learn how to use a real sewing machine! Each week students will create a different project such as pillows, bags, aprons, pouches, pillowcases and more! All supplies are included and sewing machines are provided. By the end of the session, students will have learned how to cut fabric, work with pins and needles as well as gain confidence working on a real sewing machine. Instructor: Vivian Burns

Karate Kids

Karate Kids is specifically tailored to the needs of developing children. Karate Kids will provide effective functional fitness, practical self-defense, and a structured curriculum designed to build focus, self-confidence, and leadership skills. A uniform is highly recommended but not mandatory. Students may purchase uniforms from the instructor for $30. They will be available at the first class and throughout the course. All uniforms come with a white belt. The instructor will fit the child with the proper size. Students will earn a stripe every 8 classes. Instructor: Ridgewood Karate Academy

Makerspace Challenge

Every skill level ranging from beginner to super geek will need to fire up their brains and prepare to work in cooperative engineering teams. Students will enhance their skills in logical thinking, collaboration and communication while coding. This program will foster educational and entrepreneurial innovation, inspire creative-hands on learning and strengthen problem solving skills. Instructor: Heather McDermott.

After School Enrichment

This program will provide a quiet place for students to complete homework, work on class projects, read or study for a test. All students will have access to a computer. The first 15 minutes of each session will consist of a mini lesson on Google Drive (Creating Google Docs, Uploading files to Google Drive, Sharing and Collaborating, File Management and Schoology). TGA brings the golf course to you! Our award-winning curriculum incorporates golf instruction, educational components, and character development lessons in a fun and nurturing environment. Study Skills Essentials

Could you use a little help with organization and time management? Are you losing track of assignments that you know you completed? If so, Study Skills Essentials is the course for you. Successful students require a strong foundation. Study Skills Essentials provides students with the necessary tools that are imperative for success upon entering middle school and beyond. Topics include organizational skills, time management, test taking skills, following directions and planning. Jr. Woodworking

Ballet

Denise Piccino directs and teaches the ballet program. With over 30 years of experience, Denise is a ballet teacher, dancer and choreographer. Dress requirements: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, long hair to be pulled back into a bun. Pointe classes are available to those who qualify. Class runs for 12 weeks. Performance dates to be announced.

Private Instrument Lessons

Now is a great time to improve at your instrument or learn how to play something new. Private music lessons offer comprehensive one-on-one music instruction in beginner to intermediate woodwinds, brass, strings, piano, percussion and guitar. Each 30-minute private lesson meets once a week for 18 weeks. Lessons are taught every evening after school. After registering with GRCS you will be contacted to make arrangements for day and time. Harry Potter Book Club

Explore the magical world of Harry Potter with this literary enrichment program.  Students will gain a deeper understanding of the novel as they explore the story elements and participate in fun, engaging activities that develop reading and writing skills. Students should have read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone prior to the beginning of the program. Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course

This Red Cross babysitting course teaches students the responsibilities for being a good babysitter. This course is designed for young adults ages 11 – 15. Students learn the skills necessary to babysit responsibly; supervise children and infants, perform basic child-care skills such as diapering and feeding, choose safe, age-appropriate games and toys, handle bedtime and discipline issues, identify safety hazards and prevent injuries, care for common injuries and emergencies such as choking, burns, cuts and bee stings and communicate effectively with parents. Students will receive newly revised training materials including the Babysitter’s Training Handbook and an emergency reference guide. An American Red Cross Babysitting Certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the course. Students must attend all 3 classes to receive certification. $17 for text is payable in class. Cooking Class

NEW Grab your apron and come partake in seasonal cooking classes for kids.  In each session, kids get to try their hand at making seasonal and nutritious recipes while mastering basic culinary techniques such as knife skills, seasoning food, measuring and following a recipe.  In our last class our chefs will take on their classmates in a cooking showdown!! Instructor: Ridgewood Culinary

GR/STA Exceptional Theater Company

The GR/STA Exceptional Theater Company is a program sponsored by the GRCS in collaboration with Sharing the Arts organization. Volunteers will work with students of many abilities on vocal, acting and dance in a musical theater class culminating in a workshop musical theater production. This all-inclusive experience provides the opportunity for children with special needs to be on stage who otherwise might never get the chance. Everybody has a scripted role in this very special production (both volunteers and children with special needs).

Little Ball Handling Wizards

The Glen Rock Basketball Academy presents its Spring program for younger children in grades K thru 2. This program focuses on introducing and developing the very important skill of dribbling. The goal is to get the participants comfortable with handling the basketball. Sessions are 40-minutes in duration. There is no shooting in this program.
